Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

MRI allows us to make an accurate diagnosis, which is the first step toward the right treatment plan. With the right care, we can help improve your pet's quality of life and well-being.

At Veterinary Neurology Center (VNC), we know it is natural to worry when your pet is experiencing health issues. Our two on-site MRI machines help us get clear, detailed images of
your pet's brain or spine, so we can accurately diagnose and treat their nervous system condition. That way, they can get back up on their feet as soon as possible.

What is an MRI?

MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. It's a safe and painless way to take highly detailed pictures of your pet's body using a strong magnetic field and advanced computer technology. These images help us see both normal and abnormal tissues, such as tumors, blood clots, fluid buildup (hydrocephalus), and slipped discs.

Why might your pet need an MRI?

An MRI is often recommended when a pet is showing neurological symptoms, including:

  • Weakness or difficulty walking (paraparesis or tetraparesis)
  • Paralysis or loss of movement (paraplegia or tetraplegia)
  • Spinal pain or discomfort
  • Seizures or sudden behavioral changes

How is an MRI performed?

To get the best possible images, your pet will need to be completely still during the scan, which can take 30-90 minutes. For this reason, MRI is done under anesthesia to ensure your pet remains comfortable and safe. Our neurologist carefully monitors the images in real-time to make sure we gather all the necessary information to understand your pet's condition.

Why choose Veterinary Neurology Center for your pet's MRI?

  • Our MRIs are performed under the direct supervision of a board-certified veterinary neurologist, ensuring a thorough and accurate assessment.
  • If surgery is needed, we can often proceed immediately while your pet is still under anesthesia, reducing stress and recovery time.
  • We collaborate with expert radiologists to review the images, giving your pet the most comprehensive care possible.
